Down vs Meath LIVE score updates from 2023 Tailteann Cup final The Mournemen and the Royal County go head-to-head in the Tailteann Cup decider with the winners guaranteed a place in the group stages of next year’s Sam Maguire Cup

Croke Park hosts today's Tailteann Cup final between Down and Meath Croke Park hosts today's Tailteann Cup final between Down and Meath In another era, Down and Meath were regular challengers for the biggest prize in Gaelic Football.

Between them, they won four All-Ireland SFC titles in the 1990s. Pete McGrath’s Mournemen won the All-Ireland in 1991 at the expense of Meath and annexed the Sam Maguire again in ’94 while Sean Boylan led the Royals to All-Ireland glory in 1996 and 1999.

Another All-Ireland title is up for grabs this afternoon - a tier-two crown. Yet, the Tailteann Cup represents a pathway back to the Sam Maguire Cup.

The winners of today’s game will be guaranteed a place in the group stages of next year’s All-Ireland series.

With Meath in Division Two and Down in Division Three, the Tailteann Cup is the best way for both counties to make the top 16 without reaching their respective provincial finals next season.

Of course, Meath and Down have already met in the competition with Colm O’Rourke’s side claiming a 1-11 to 1-9 win in Parnell Park last month.

Yet, Down are favourites for today’s final following their remarkable 8-16 to 2-12 win over Laois in the semi-final while Meath laboured to a two-point win over Antrim in the other semi-final.

With so much at stake, this one could go down to the wire and we’ll have all the latest build-up and team news ahead of throw-in at 3pm.
